![]() ![]() It can be traced back to the early 17th century. The Jura Distillery is a small company on an island that has a long history in whisky production. This wood is rather non-typical in the whisky production but turns out to be the right choice in this case. It matured in casks that are made of Limousin oak, which comes from an oak producing region in France. The Isle of Jura Prophecy is non-chill filtered, what led to a stronger peaty aroma. A bit caramel and vanilla join the flavour union with some delay. The finish is lasting long and reveals dry notes of smoke and herbals. The power of 46 % alcohol by volume is obvious and makes this island whisky to the strongest of the Jura product range so far. It shows a mellow acerbity and flavours of nutmeg, fresh sea spray, citrus fruits, cinnamon as well as cardamom. Notes of aniseed, very little fruits, a light sweetness and a maritime odour of salty sea weed accompany the peat. Its smoky aroma is already quite strong on the nose. Even though its products are usually unpeated or just very little peated, this Isle of Jura Prophecy is comparable with the smokier whiskies from the Isle of Islay. The Jura Distillery is the only whisky producing company on the little Isle of Jura. This prophecy stated that the last of the Campbells would leave the island with one eye and all his worldly possessions in a single cart, pulled by a white horse. This whisky is named for an island prophecy, predicting the downfall of the Campbell clan, who ruled over the island for many generations. Aromas of floral heather, brazil nuts and salty sea air fill the nose, and the palate offers notes of smoky bacon, maple syrup, liquorice and dried fruit.
